About/Contact
The DFOG was formed in the 1990s to address diesel fuel acceptance, storage, and testing
practices to improve fuel quality for use in EDGs (emergency diesel generators) at nuclear power plants. Financial support and
management was provided by EPRI for approximately ten years. In 2001, EPRI discontinued formal
funding of the DFOG. From 2001 – 2012 a core group of the DFOG membership volunteered
their time to organize meetings and continue working on diesel-fuel related technical efforts.
Over this 11 year period, organizations such as EPRI and Southwest Research Institute (SwRI)
periodically provided meeting space and other support at no cost to the group. However, eleven
years without formal funding and dedicated organizational support reduced the effectiveness and
technical impact of the DFOG at a time when diesel fuel was undergoing a number of significant
changes (e.g., ultra-low sulfur diesel and biodiesel).
Recognizing the
industry’s need for a healthy and vibrant DFOG, in 2013 the core DFOG member utilities
contracted MPR Associates, Inc. to provide the organizational and technical support needed to
facilitate restoration of the DFOG to the effective industry group it had been in the 1990s.
Industry participation in the “new” DFOG now requires participants to pay an annual
membership fee, which is then used to pay for the organizational and technical support provided
by MPR, to fund diesel fuel quality-related technical studies/investigations, provide diesel
fuel quality training to the industry, and create and maintain an accessible database of diesel
fuel quality data & technical information for the industry.
