2022 DFOG Meeting

The 2022 DFOG Meeting was held in-person on August 9-11, 2022 in San Antonio, TX. The technical meetings and facility tour was hosted by the SwRI.

2021 DFOG Meeting

The 2021 DFOG Meeting was held virtually on August 10-12, 2021. Forty-six attendees shared operating experience and discussed topics such as fuel quality trends; biodiesel and FLEX equipment.

2020 DFOG Meeting

In light of the continuing challenges to safe travel posed by Covid-19, the DFOG Leadership  has formally decided to replace the planned physical DFOG gathering in San Antonio, TX with 3 virtual meeting time slots over the same 3 days (Aug. 11, 12, and 13). Details to come.

Diesel Fuel Primer – “Diesel Fuel for Use in EDGs at Nuclear Power Plants”

Recognizing the steep learning curve facing newly assigned DFO Program owners, the DFOG initiated a formal technical effort to develop a “Diesel Fuel Primer” nuclear stations can use to help quickly bring those newly assigned DFO Program owners up to speed on the technical nuances of their new responsibilities.  The Primer was released in October 2019 and is available for use by all DFOG member stations.

2019 DFOG Meeting

The 2019 DFOG Meeting was July 9-11, 2019 at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Charlotte, NC.  The DFOG technical meeting occurred on Tuesday and Thursday.  On Wednesday, DFOG members participated in the Joint Owners Group (JOG) meeting consisting of members from industry Diesel Engine Owners Groups.  The DFOG presented on recommended actions for stations to prepare for acceptance of biodiesel blend fuels up to 5% biodiesel (B5).

The Exelon Fleet Joins the DFOG

In June 2019, Exelon joined the DFOG as a fleet. This allows all Exelon stations (14) to benefit from these member resources: 

• Access to the DFOG Listserv for real-time answers to DFO questions
• Access to the DFOG resources website for guidance documents, references, training and past presentations
• Annual meeting and teleconferences for sharing of OE
• Support of industry DFO and biodiesel experts

Nuclear Industry Chemistry Group (CY) NISP-301 "Diesel Fuel Oil Program" Released

In 2018/2019, the DFOG worked closely with the Nuclear Industry Chemistry Group (CY) to create a Nuclear Industry Standard Process (NISP) for Diesel Fuel Oil Programs.  The guide will assist with consistency of diesel fuel sampling, testing and acceptance throughout the U. S. Nuclear Power Plant fleet and be a resource for Diesel Fuel Program managers and staff. The DFOG will continue to provide technical guidance for future revisions to the NISP. Nuclear Industry Chemistry Group (CY) NISP-301 is available to the industry on the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) website.

July 2018

DFOG Annual Meeting

The 2018 DFOG annual meeting was held July 17-19, 2018 in Kansas City, Missouri.   A QA/QC training session was presented by Mr. Nuno Moreira of SGS Herguth Labs and a Biodiesel training session was presented by Mr. Scott Fenwick of the National Biodiesel Board.  In addition, the AG Processing Biodiesel facility in St. Joseph, Missouri provided an information session and hosted a tour.

Another Plant Joins DFOG

R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant joins the DFOG as a member. Ginna is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario in the town of Ontario, NY. Ginna is owned by Exelon Corporation.

DFOG Annual Meeting

The 2017 Diesel Fuel Oil Group (DFOG) annual meeting was held July 18-20, 2017 in American Canyon, CA. Mr. Steve Westbrook taught a Diesel Fuel Training Class to DFOG meeting attendees. Ms. Mindy Villalba and Mr. Nuno Moreira hosted a tour of the SGS Herguth laboratories in Vallejo, CA.

The 2016 Diesel Fuel Oil Group (DFOG) annual meeting was held July 19-20, 2016 in Nashville, TN at the Hampton Inn Downtown Nashville. Nineteen attendees shared operating experience and discussed topics such as fuel quality trends, biodiesel and FLEX equipment. Mr. Steve Westbrook (SWRI) provided updates on recent and upcoming ASTM and Coordinating Research Council activities.
